"Our vision is so limited we can hardly imagine a love that does not show itself in protection from suffering.... The love of God did not protect His own Son.... He will not necessarily protect us - not from anything it takes to make us like His Son." - Elisabeth Elliot
Life is filled with battles. We experience struggles, face enemies, and endure hardships. For believers, these challenges can often feel like casualties in God's divine plan. Yet, as Elisabeth Elliot insightfully points out, these sufferings aren't accidents, but rather intentional components of God's grand design to shape us into the image of His Son.
The Divine Blueprint
When God initiated the cosmic pilgrimage of mankind, it was more than just a replay of predetermined events. He sparked life, growth, and power into existence, creating a divine blueprint that continues to unfold today. This plan isn't passive, but rather a dynamic, growing reality that God Himself experiences with us.
Despite the extent of suffering we encounter, it's crucial to remember the bigger picture: we're living out the grand narrative God set in motion. He made us out of the dirt, and like precious gems formed by the pressures of earth, we're being shaped and polished by the trials of life. These pressures are not for our destruction but for our refinement into radiant stones that will adorn our Creator for all eternity.
The Power of Prayer
But where does prayer fit into all this? Why should we ask for protection if we're destined to experience casualties in God's war? Why should we trust in His protection?
When Jesus, God in human form, walked the earth, He was the ultimate expression of divine love. His incarnation, life, death, and resurrection were all purposed to reconcile humanity back to God. Yet, in His darkest hour, Jesus pleaded with the Father, asking if there was another way to fulfill this mission.
This intimate exchange between Jesus and the Father underscores the power and importance of prayer. It may seem paradoxical, but prayer is not so much about changing God's mind as it is about aligning ourselves with His will. It's through prayer that we receive divine guidance, seek mercy, find favor, and ultimately learn to trust His plan, even when it includes trials and tribulations.
The Reality of Casualties
The reality is that casualties are an inevitable part of God's war. Our life on this earth will include trials, and these trials will vary in their nature and intensity. Some of us may be in the middle of a battle, with circumstances not going our way, while others might be rejoicing in victories and testimonies of God's deliverance.
Regardless of where you find yourself, be encouraged. In the midst of turmoil, God offers His strength, guidance, wisdom, and perspective. Through prayer and an intimate connection with Him, you'll find empowerment and guidance to navigate your way.
For those rejoicing in victories, remember the words of Christ to the healed lame man, "Sin no more." Triumph doesn't negate vigilance. Continue to watch and guard against anything that might give the enemy a foothold.
For those waiting, unsure of how things will turn out, be comforted in God's faithfulness. He prepares us for any outcome and helps us resist the temptation to lean on our own understanding. Patience in waiting on God and His wisdom allows His purposes to be fulfilled gloriously.
Navigating the Battlefield
Unfortunately, many of us don't have the luxury of time to become expertly trained soldiers. We juggle work, family, health issues, and caring for others, often leaving little time for intensive spiritual training. Despite these challenges, it's crucial to invest time in seeking divine instructions from God. Those who commit to spiritual growth and understanding can expect deeper battles but also greater victories.
Every battle, every casualty, is an opportunity for growth. As we face the challenges of life, let's do so with the awareness that God uses these experiences to shape us into the people He designed us to be.
Embracing the Casualties
So, yes, there will be casualties in God's war. But the beauty of this journey is that these are not defeats, but opportunities for growth and transformation. The Bible assures us that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
Our earthly battles are unavoidable, yet they're a small price to pay when considering the eternal reward. As you navigate your personal battles, remember that God has equipped you to face anything and everything. More importantly, remember that He's with you every step of the way.
In the grand scheme of God's plan, we're all soldiers navigating through battles. Some of us may face more challenges than others, but the final outcome is the same. We're being shaped, molded, and prepared for our eternal home with God. He's refining us, like a jeweler refining precious gems, to adorn Him for eternity.
Stay close to Him, seek His face, and let Him guide you through the trials of life. Embrace the casualties, for they're nothing compared to the glory that awaits us.
Prayer for Encouragement During Attacks
Father, I don't know what you're doing or where you're taking me, but I need to feel you by my side. Forgive me for all of the ways I've failed to acknowledge you or ignored the counsel of your Holy Spirit. Cleanse my mind and my heart to be worthy of your companionship. Thank you for every way you have been faithful to me. Thank you for reminding me that I am yours, that your love for me is deeper than I will ever know, and that you will avenge me. I trust my life in your hands. Use me as you see fit. Teach me to bless those that curse me and to wield your word like a sword. Darkness will never overcome the light, and you have illuminated my soul. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory.
Forever and ever, amen.
